All you have to do is place it on the water; it takes care of the rest on its own. Stratiotes aloides Stratiotes aloides) is a robust, hardy oxygenating plant that floats freely on the water. The plant purifies pond water, prevents algae growth, and maintains a natural balance in your pond year-round. In winter, the plant sheds its leaves until only the green growth core remains, then sinks to the bottom to overwinter there and resurface in the spring. What makes this plant unique is its self-regulating behavior. Stratiotes aloides its place in the pond, sometimes floating upside down but always turning back toward the light on its own. The plant sinks to the bottom to absorb nutrients from the substrate and floats back up as soon as it is saturated. This way, it stays healthy for years, grows a little further each year, and at the same time helps keep the water clear and the bottom free of silt. Stratiotes aloides hardy and robust. The plant can last for years without you having to buy new ones all the time. It purifies the water without the need for chemicals, pumps, or filters. It all works simply through the power of nature. For a balanced pond, we recommend planting at least 10 to 12 individual oxygenating plants per 1,000 liters of water, and 2 baskets of oxygenating plants (containing 4 plants each) per 1,000 liters of water for the shallow areas. No matter what I tried, the water in my pond just wouldn't clear up. After exchanging a few emails, I decided to order this complete kit, though to be honest, I wasn't very confident it would work.
