3 Tips from Simon for Designing Your Pond

Planting plan for a pond without a pump or filter
1

Unfortunately, this is a common mistake: filling the pond with water before the aquatic plants have been placed. This makes it difficult or even impossible to position all the plants securely in the substrate. Simon therefore recommends starting by spreading a thin layer Pond substrate an empty pond, then adding just a small amount of water. You can now walk through the pond in boots to place the Aquatic plants their spots in the substrate. Then top it off with more substrate. Is everything secure and firmly in place? Only then should you fill the entire pond with water.

2

If you have a larger pond, it’s a good idea to work from the inside out. This means you start in the deepest area and work your way out step by step. You’ll finish in the shallowest area (the marsh area).

3

When planting Aquatic plants consider the ideal depth for optimal growth. This information is listed on the packaging of our pond plants. Do you like having lots of plants? If so, place the baskets or crates close together.
